Munduk is a village located in the central highlands of Bali which is adjacent to the villages of Kayuputih and Banyuatis.
Although the village of Munduk itself looks simple when you travel down a single main road, the buildings keep hidden secrets: behind them is the main place to watch the sunset.
Often ignored by tourists, the cool climate of Munduk comes to many people as a welcome welcome from the humidity that is common throughout Bali. Trekking is the best choice when you are on holiday in Munduk and you can see why with many footpaths crossing wooded hills to hidden villages, two main waterfalls and coffee, clove and cocoa plantations. You can climb them independently. Even though the map is worth it and the time and patience is very important to navigate a track that is often like a maze. Brush up on your basic Bali and ask the locals for help whenever you can.
The Dutch colony used to live in Munduk to escape the heat of Singaraja, the second largest city in Bali and the center of the island’s colonial past. The Netherlands built various kinds of resting houses for those who want to take a break from the city. You can still see evidence of colonial-style buildings today, some have survived by being converted into a guesthouse.
